Waiting To Take Action Is Not Wisdom. Here Is What Is.

I'm a firm believer in taking things slow and embracing the process to reach our goals. That might surprise you by reading the title of this article.

Taking things slow means having patience for something to play out over the long term instead of striving to force outcomes. I strongly believe in this.

I get sad when I see people justify allowing fear to run their lives under the disguise of "wisdom and prudence."

Wisdom does not mean waiting around, doing absolutely anything, and hoping your situation changes.

It does not mean waiting until you "feel good about things" and "have all the pieces together" to start taking action.

Unfortunately, people often conflate these excuses and reasons to justify their inaction as "wisdom" - ie. waiting for the process.

There's no such thing as waiting for the process to happen...

The process is an active thing.

It happens with movement and motion, forward energy - not sitting around, hoping something changes or happens.

How do I know this? Because I used to be this person...

I used to be someone who was waiting for other people to change around me in order to take action.

I was waiting until I "reached a certain level of success" to take action on my goals.

I was waiting for me to "have all the pieces together" before taking action.

All of these are excuses.

They will destroy your future. They will keep you stuck in your comfort zone.

Taking things slow and "the process" requires you to be swift and quick with your decision-making and action-taking.

Fear disguised as wisdom thinks that "waiting around" is how we take things slow.

Fear of the unknown tries to justify "perfectionism" and "calculated action" as wisdom.

Fear might even tell you that it's just your "analytical personality."

Fear of the unknown will convince you that you are "wise" when you are sitting around waiting for everything to go perfect while overthinking and overanalyzing every step of the way.

Fear might even justify itself as "a spirit of excellence" and "I want to do this really well, so I'm taking longer" when in fact, it's just fear of what is outside of our knowledge and control!

Fear and wisdom can not co-exist with each other.

Being afraid of what is outside of your control or knowledge and using this fear to justify staying stuck is not wisdom! It's not patience.

You have to take action even in the face of uncertainty. You have to step forward even when things are outside of your control.

You may even justify your fear as "planning for success" - while that planning stage is taking you 3-6 months.

Figure out what you don't know swiftly and quickly. Take imperfect, fluidly planned action (which has room to bend the plan) as soon as possible. Bend your plans if new information comes up! (Btw, changing your plans mid-process doesn't make you a failure or unwise). Figure out the rest as you go.

When you can start to master the skill of taking action and figuring things out as you go, you will become more successful.

When we tell ourselves that our waiting around doing nothing is "wisdom," we allow fear to run out lives.

Creativity and abundance also do not co-exist with fear. When we believe there's a finite amount of success available to us and tell ourselves that we must be so cautious and careful about taking action that we stay stuck - we let fear win and rule our lives.

It's time to give up the grip of fear on your decision making. It's time to start to take swift action of your choices. It's time to quickly learn and get the help and advice you need to take your business to the next level.

Sitting around waiting for things to work out for you while doing absolutely nothing and allowing perfectionism to justify why you aren't moving forward can no longer be an option for you.

You have to choose to build your business like a professional!

You have to choose to not let your feelings keep you stuck.

Keep the forward momentum going—this isn't about burning yourself out either.

Consistent, daily forward motion and divorcing fear from your thought process will accelerate your results on a regular basis.

You have to start to be swift at the action taking in the small things in your life. Every day, take swift forward action towards your goals.

When you make this a full time forever habit for yourself, things will start to fall in place for you.

How To Handle Getting Nervous While Selling

Nerves are a natural part of doing something new and learning new things.

If you've never sold many products or services before, dealing with nerves is a very normal part of that process.

Many times, you can overthink how it will go. You might consider all the ways it could go wrong. You might even be afraid of not selling anything at all.

The fastest way around these nerves is to do it scared and keep doing it!

You might say, "Easier said than done." As long as you believe it's easier said than done, your nerves will get the best of you.

You have to be willing to do things that make you nervous and scared in your business for you to make money.

The only way you will go to the next level is to do things that terrify you.

Fear doesn't control you unless you allow it to.

You will have to put yourself out there and probably look stupid the first few times you sell something! That's entirely, ok!

The more you do it, the better it'll get! But you have to take those steps forward.

If taking those steps forward, reaching out to people (even cold selling to get your feet wet) is too difficult to do, figure out why that is!

What belief do you have that telling you that doing so will hurt or destroy you? What pain are you avoiding feeling? Describe it. Give the feeling a name.

You'll most likely find that these beliefs will go back to some time or experience in your past where you decided never to do that thing that you are scared of doing! It might even be a painful experience.

Does cold reaching out to prospects on Facebook terrify you? Why is that? I'm not saying you have to, but think about that!

Maybe it's because you wouldn't feel comfortable if someone did the same to you. Why is that?

You have to look inside yourself to answer these questions.

None of us wants to be a pushy salesperson. And because of that, we often swing to the other direction of the spectrum.

It's ok to sell if people expect you to sell.

When you deal with nerves while selling, you have to keep selling to get past them.

Someone rejecting you in a sales interaction is not the end of the world. They just weren't a good fit. Let them go!

Keep doing it. Embrace getting rejected as "part of the process" - an essential and necessary part!

The more you do this, the more money you will make. Put it to the test and try it out.

Having Confidence Without A Track Record Or Results

There's a myth that's going around in business - that confidence comes from what you've done and the results you create.

This is only partially true and in just a few instances. Yes, it's true; when you create results, it increases your confidence.

But it's a myth because confidence is a catalyst that leads to courage! And this is where the conversation gets mixed up.

It's almost like a "chicken or the egg" conversation. What came first, the courage or the confidence?

I firmly believe confidence comes before courage because you have the confidence that you will be alright even if you take courageous action and it fails.

Ultimately, it takes a level of confidence that courageous action no matter what happens - and faith IN bold action itself leads to results, but the root here is still confidence!

Confidence comes from identity - self-love, and self-acceptance. It starts by knowing who you are and what value you bring to the world around you.

To have this level of confidence, it takes letting go of the need to judge yourself based on your results (and how we judge others for their results).

It takes total acceptance of whatever happens that it's ok and good - and part of the process of learning and growing.

It takes acceptance that being a learner and being "in the process" - is ok. That "not knowing everything perfectly" is also ok and safe!

This is the confidence that leads to courageous action because it's connected to total honesty.

I've heard some people say that having confidence without results is dishonest and fraudulent, but I firmly believe that it's the other way around! When we have the confidence, to be honest with ourselves and everyone we meet about where we are in the process, we activate ourselves to grow and move forward in life. This is about making ourselves vulnerable to criticism and judgment from others without fearing how others perceive us!

The level of confidence I'm talking about is completely giving up the need to "appear professional" all the time and just giving it your best shot.

It's ok that your best shot might not produce the results you hoped, but that you are in the process!

This confidence level that comes from total self-acceptance and self-love for who we are allows us to do impossible things, even in the beginning. It activates us to take massive action, even when we've never done something before.

To take this to the next level, when our confidence comes from connecting with our higher power, with God, we take steps of faith in everything we do!

Our confidence comes from trusting the process and not needing to control everything that happens in and around us in our life.

What will it take for you to develop that level of self-acceptance and faith?

What's preventing you from stepping out with that kind of "reckless confidence" in everything you do?

Once you start doing that, things in your business will begin to fall in place for you.

Business is about bringing value to people, delivering value with excellence. It's not about perfection.

When you believe in yourself, others will start to believe in you as well! That's what this confidence is all about.

Haven't produced any results? Great! No problem! Let's get some wins under your belt and then build on those!

Every single expert or person who changed the world started right where you are now, without results or without the results that they wanted. They got honest with themselves and then stepped out with confidence and faith.

You have to start to step out in faith and do things that might have previously terrified you. When you do this, things will begin to come together for you, but until you do, you will probably be spinning around in circles wondering why things haven't "worked out yet."

Here's Why You Should Stop People-Pleasing

People-pleasing will lead you to do things you wouldn't normally do to keep others from thinking, saying, or doing something you don't like.

You see, people-pleasing is a form of control. We're trying to control others' emotions, opinions, and choices by doing everything they want.

You might say, "But I'm not trying to control anyone!" You might even argue to the death for this belief.

The fact is: People-pleasing is "people misleading" and "people controlling." Plain and simple.

We believe that if we do what everyone wants us to do, we will be safe because of how we manage (i.e., control) their emotions, thoughts, and feelings.

And this is the problem: It's impossible to do what everyone wants. It's impossible to please everyone.

I would go on a limb to say that people-pleasing. Simultaneously, it comes from wanting to do the right thing is one of the most hurtful things a person can do towards other people.

We have to be people who do what we want, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

Sacrificing your authentic self to please other people is unhealthy and unloving to those around you.

The best thing you can learn to do is be 100% authentically yourself in every area of life, including your marketing and sales process.

You see, if you being authentic means you lose a sale: GOOD! I'm glad. That's a good thing. You don't want people working with you who don't resonate with your true self.

You don't even have to turn much business down this way because your authentic nature will repel people from you.

You see, this is about being a powerful person.

None of us are powerless to other people's feelings or opinions about us. None of us are controlled by what people think about us. This is the belief paradigm that will change everything for you.

See, if you think that other people's thoughts, emotions, opinions, and choices are something you should manage, that means that they have power over you.

This often happens from a life of experiences that tells us that we have to please others to be safe. That we have to do whatever someone says and follow all the rules to be safe.

It's not your job to make other people happy. It's not your job to manage how they think, feel, or act.

Your job is to be authentically yourself, regardless of what they think.

Is this an excuse to be a jerk? Is this a license to hurt people? NO!

Whenever this conversation comes up, that's usually the extreme people point out, "Well, If I weren't pleasing people, then I would be hurting them."

It's true; some of our most authentic best actions may hurt people. If they hurt people, and you know inside yourself that you did the right thing, that's not your responsibility to manage.

This is why working through our inner issues, healing, getting some therapy, and working through what holds us back is so important!

It's not your job to manage the feelings of other people. It's not your job to "caretake" their emotions.

Is caretaking wrong? No! We should take care of each other in the community. But not to the point that we step into trying to control others.

And this here is the root issue of people-pleasing: wanting to do everything right. Said another way, wanting to make sure that we are correct, and other people can't know that we are wrong.

It's rooted in pride and ego. A belief that we are doing everything right so that no one can ever say anything corrective or wrong to us.

When someone then does correct us, depending on who they are or what is said, we get upset. You might be getting upset at me right now reading this! That's ok. Years ago, that would've bothered me. Now, it's not my job to manage your emotions.

Does this come from trauma? Yes, most often. Can it be stopped? Yes. Should it be? Absolutely!

When you stop people-pleasing, your entire life opens up for you. You're able to flow in your most fabulous self. It becomes effortless to be whom you've always wanted to be.

It's not your job to manage what other people think about you. Let's all commit to ending people-pleasing in our lives!

Your Routine Will Decide How Much Money You Make

How do you methodically get into a routine that will pay you 6 and 7 figures?

When I first started getting up at 5 am every day, it was so hard.

I thought to myself, "Omg, I can't keep doing this, I'm going to die," I actually gave up twice on it.

But I knew that my routine was going to determine my future.

You see, whatever you repeatedly do will manifest for you. When you get up in the morning at the same time every day, it creates a habit.

These habits become solidified for you as repeated experiences.

The statistics show: it takes 21 days to make a habit and 60 days to solidify them. When they become solidified, it’s hard to break even if you try! You go on autopilot.

What if you made a habit of becoming wealthy? What if you solidified the activities that would generate millions of dollars for you in a business?

The top business owners that I've ever met over the past 18 years all say this: success is methodical!

And that's what I teach to my coaching clients as well.

You have to get into a methodical routine of doing the same thing consistently every single day to generate wealth for yourself and your family.

Business success is not going to happen by accident for you.

You have to consistently, every single day, do the activities that will make you profit in your business.

You can't just "sometimes" build your business. It has to be every day, even if that's 30 minutes a day. If that's all, you got. Give it the best 30 minutes you can.

When you get to where I am, it's at least 4-6 hours a day cuz this is my full-time thing. What got me to the place where I'm earning a full-time income in my own business was becoming methodical.

You don't have a boss over you, so you have to be the boss. You have to stay on top of yourself to stay consistent.

Ask yourself this: What's stopping you from being consistent with your business? What is preventing you from taking the actions each day that you need to? What excuses or reasons do you give why you can't? What keeps you from building your business consistently?

I know that we all have "stuff" that goes on around us. But we do not have to let our stuff have control over us. If you want to be a full-time business owner, you have to build your business like a full-time gig.

If you build your business full time and set up your day around a routine that serves you, it will pay you dividends!

If you take it seriously, as seriously as you've ever taken anything else before, it will pay you.

Are you taking your business as seriously as any job you've ever worked? If not, start!

You have to get into this routine where it is your thing, and it's what you do.

When you do this, it pays you like that. When you don't, it hardly pays you at all!

That's really just the truth. Business is about full time. Business is about giving it all you got.

Can you make an income working part-time? Sure, but it takes time to get there.

You have to be 100% committed and all in on your business for it to pay you what you want.

Are you going to commit to giving 100% to your business? Let's get started.

Making Content In The Middle Of Chaos

Learning to work in the middle of chaos takes practice.

I get it: it feels like we never have any time to get anything done with our world today.

That’s why these handy smartphones come in handy.

Using apps like Evernote or even the notes app on your phone allows you to write, take notes, plan out content, and map out ideas from anywhere in your day.

You can jot down a few lines, close the app, and then finish a few hours later.

Example 1: I wrote this article and have done most of my social media content that way all week!

When I say that I maybe spend an hour a day making all my content, courses, marketing and emails, I mean it! It's just spread out across 5-10 minutes here and there.

Example 2: This article took me 5 minutes to write.

You CAN train yourself to connect, communicate, write, and build your business with that much speed and clarity.

When we do so by finding peace amid chaos and being confident to express ourselves without reservations, without worry or fear, without wondering if we said things the right way, things flow for us!

The number one practice that helped me do this was daily journaling in the morning. I would write down everything that came to mind, even if none of it made sense or formed coherent sentences.

Over time doing that, I got a lot clearer with my writing and now do most all my writing during my day from my phone when inspiration strikes, just a few minutes!

I document my video content, my written content, emails, graphics, all that.

It doesn't have to take you all day, and your content does not have to be perfect.

You need to express yourself clearly, with confidence, and without reservations or holding anything back!

Try it out. This week grab your phone and start typing…

Or sit down at your computer…

Or write on a notepad…

Get your thoughts down, then come back to them a few hours later to put it all together.

You might be surprised how easy it is to write and come up with ideas for content.

Don't know what to make content or write about? Try these three things:

  1. Document your process for things you do to share your methods.

  2. Give your spin on topics you share and care about.

  3. Share what's on your heart.

Over time as you do this consistently, your ability to manage your business and content creation will accelerate like crazy, and you'll be able to create content effortlessly.

What would happen if you effortlessly made content every day in less than an hour a day for your business growth? It's possible!

Bonus round:

Did you know that you can build your entire business on a smartphone these days? You don't even need a computer if you don't want one (except for maybe making changes to your website, but that about it really, and most tablets can do that as well with sites like Squarespace or Kajabi (which happen to be my favorite site, membership and landing page builders).

There are no limits to what’s possible regarding schedule, availability, creativity, and focus, except what we allow ourselves to do.

Focus on learning what you don't know and growing in skills.

It’s possible to grow in this skill, but you have to be intentional with it.

There will never come a day that everything is “ordered” and “peaceful” enough around you to start building your business, so you have to learn to work within the chaos instead of waiting for it to stop.

What’s one skill you wish you had more of after reading this article?

What do you think you need to learn better to do what I talked about here? Please send me a Dm or let me know by posting in the #GrowYourLife FB group!
